Our Trip To Mina Bazaar
Two weeks ago we went on a trip to Bur Dubai Meena Bazaar; it’s this old souq that attracts tourists and it’s very different from how Dubai normally look like. We did an observational 2-minute documentary about what’s happening around the area.
We found it very difficult to get and idea and film it in the time we had, we only had one hour and no ideas. Without any preparation and proper equipment since we did not know what we were expecting to see. Our creativity was blocked we couldn’t think of anything quickly so it was very frustrating.
It was very difficult to communicate with some of the shop owners because they spoke very little English. It was specifically hard for me since I’m the director and I w
as trying to communicate with them to interview them. Our other issue was the lighting; some of the shots look really grain. For lighting what I would’ve done differently is we could’ve gotten a reflector.
We should’ve worked better with the natural light that was available to us.
Our lighting was a bit annoying when we were filming in alleyways and areas with a lot of shadows from the buildings, if we had a proper lighting kit with us we could’ve shot some better shots and it would’ve to the message that were trying portray and it could’ve added more to the message of being happy and smiling since everything was a bit dark it was very hard to show the happy side of the documentary.
If we had a different location where there was more light and the alleyways were more wide and less crowded we could’ve had better shots to add the mood in our documentary.
